deviant art dispelling myths

Date: Saturday, April 5th, 2014

Time: 3-9pm

Where: Northup King Building, Gallery 332, 1500 Jackson St NE, Minneapolis

Price: Free!

The show is put together by artist Sarah Thornton of Lintu Art and raises funds for A Rotta Love Plus, a Twin Cities pit bull and Rottweiler rehoming, advocacy, and education organization.

Deviant Art provides an opportunity to experience artwork by both local and national artists, mingle with ARLP volunteers, enjoy food and beverages, as well as learn about and support ARLP.  Attendees will also enjoy the company of registered therapy dogs, many of whom were adopted through ARLP.

The works included explore the theme of “deviant” breeds—beloved canine companions who are often portrayed by the media as menaces. The multi-medium art exhibit focuses on Rottweilers and pit bulls, but other breeds that have been similarly characterized are included.

The theme is very special to me because, as a Proud Pit Bull Mom, I’m very aware of the perception versus the reality of “deviant” breeds. Pitties and Rotties are truly the sweetest dogs there are and sadly they are also the most often abused and the most often euthanized dogs. It is through groups like A Rotta Love Plus and benefits like Deviant Art: Dispelling Myths that we can give a voice to dogs in need and change public perception of these amazing animals.

Come see my work, see the work of many other talented artists, enjoy great food and beverages, and meet some truly amazing dogs and the people who love them!!
